Vertigo No.4
Vertigo No.4
Vértigo No. 4
There are awakenings that are not experienced as immediate liberation, but as an inner violence. Not because truth is the enemy of the human being, but because coming to see it after a long deformation requires passing through the collapse of whatever once held him together. In the work of Abisay Puentes, that instant does not appear as relief, but as shock: consciousness begins to open, but it does so in the midst of trembling.
Born in Cuba under a dictatorship that turned confinement into horizon and obedience into atmosphere, Puentes has developed a symbolic narrative in which oppression is not limited to the political sphere, but penetrates the inner structure of the human being. Within that universe, Vértigo No. 4 belongs to the series where blindness begins to fracture and the soul enters the weight of recognizing what had remained hidden for too long.
In La Parábola, Vértigo occupies the moment when awakening ceases to be an abstract possibility and becomes an irreversible experience. For that reason, this work should not be read as an isolated image, but as a decisive fragment of a larger body in which painting, music, and poetry act as one narrative construction. Here, truth does not present itself as serenity, but as spiritual intensity: a force that interrupts, unsettles, and compels one to see again.
The importance of Vértigo No. 4 lies precisely in that capacity to sustain a tension that does not exhaust itself in the first encounter. It is a work that introduces into the space a presence of recognition, dislocation, and lucidity; a painting whose resonance depends not on immediacy, but on permanence. For the collector, its value resides in that density: in its place within a broader symbolic project and in its capacity to keep opening over time, as a work that is not limited to being seen, but demands to be inhabited intellectually.
