In music, a theme can return several times without ever repeating itself in exactly the same way.
That idea lies at the center of Vértigo.
I did not conceive No.1, No.2, No.3, and No.4 as four independent stories. They are variations on the same instant: consciousness returning after too much time, forcing the man to confront again what he had ceased to perceive.
As a composer, I am deeply interested in the possibility of remaining inside one idea while transforming it without abandoning it. I do something similar in painting. A feeling may require more than one work because a single image cannot always contain all of its tensions.
Vértigo No.3 belongs to that process.
For me, awakening has never meant simply seeing more clearly. There are truths that, once recognized, do not immediately bring relief. First, they disturb our balance.
Perhaps that is why Vértigo is not only about discovering something.
It is also about what happens when we can no longer live as though we had never seen it.
