Abisay Puentes Art
Vertigo No.1
Vertigo No.1
Vértigo No. 1
In Abisay Puentes’s symbolic language, the sea does not signify freedom. It signifies confinement. Born in Cuba under a dictatorship that turned an island into a prison, his work emerges from a lived reality in which silence, surveillance, and inner distortion were not metaphors, but conditions of life.
Vértigo No. 1 belongs to Vértigo, the series in which consciousness begins to return after a prolonged state of distortion. This is not the calm of awakening, but its instability: the moment in which illusion starts to fracture and the soul enters the vertigo of seeing again.
Within La Parábola, the larger symbolic narrative Puentes has developed through painting, music, and poetry, Vértigo marks a decisive threshold. It is the passage from numbness to lucidity, from blindness to the first tremor of truth. Vértigo No. 1 stands within that passage as a work of revelation and spiritual tension.
This painting is not intended as an isolated image, but as part of a sustained body of work in which visual force and symbolic meaning remain inseparable. Its presence lies in that condition: not in decoration, but in its capacity to hold tension, memory, and the shock of inner recognition within the space.
