En el Foso de la Desolación No.1
En el Foso de la Desolación No.1
A decisive work within my trajectory, preserved over the years as one of the most significant pieces in the Imposibilitado series.
This work is part of the Imposibilitado series, within La Parábola.
I painted In the Pit of Desolation in 2008, in Cuba, and since then I have treasured it as an especially important piece within this series. Although it was the third painting I created for that body of work, it became a foundational core: a work from which tensions began to take shape that would later continue to develop throughout my practice.
In Cuba, it was exhibited only once, which meant it was seen by very few people. Shortly before my departure to the United States in 2010, I was unable to bring it with me directly. A friend managed to bring it over before I left, and since then the work has remained with me as part of a decisive period in both my life and my artistic development. In the United States, it has been exhibited on three occasions.
As part of my practice, this painting belongs to a symbolic narrative constructed through painting, music, and poetry, in which I explore the manipulation of the human being, social and inner fading, and the need for spiritual confrontation.
Its presence is meant to accompany the viewer in an experience of introspection, resonance, and quiet transformation.
